Hi Amanda,

What is the difference between and Osteopath and a Cranial-Osteopath, and which would you recommend in different situations...eg pregnancy, newborns, children, etc.

Many thanks x

Hi there

There is a huge difference between the two.  Cranial Osteopaths use a non-invasive method of treatment  and so is more suited to babies and children.  Osteopaths use invasive  methods such as soft tissue, joint articulation and joint manipulation which are better suited to children and adults, some osteopaths use both, so it's worth asking before if you are particular about any methods used.

It's also very important to point out that cranio-sacral therapists are not osteopaths. All practitioners with osteopath in their title must be present on the General Osteopathic Council register, which safeguards with public liability insurance.  I am not sure what the situation with cranio-sacral therapists is, I know that they only have to train for two years, where as I had a five year slog!!

Hope this helps

Thank you for that!!  I took Erin to a Cranial Osteopath when she was little as she had quite bad reflux, and I do think it helped.  My hubby also saw an Osteopath who really helped sort out a very achey back.  Where is your practise?

Hi Erin

I am based in St. Austell, but I could recommend someone in Falmouth if you need a treatment.

Hi Amanda

Can I just ask whether you practise cranial osteopathy so I have you down for my records.

Hello there

No I don't do any cranial osteopathy but I have a cranio-sacral therapist at my practice. (Male).

Best wishes
