The Alliance for Natural Health is a fantastic site for information on the latest!

To think we may not be able to choose natural products, supplements, organic food, non vaccination!!!  Unbelievable!

There have been arguments raging over these and similar issues for quite some time now.  I can't quite imagine our health food shops and products companies (think of the major companies like Solgar, Quest, Vogels, etc, etc) just sitting back and letting this happen to their businesses, but if you want to do something actively you might want to sign the petition at:

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk:80/healthstores/

I would add that the particular piece of legislation currently being reviewed at the moment is to limit the potency of various vitamins and minerals, not ban things altogether.  There are 'intentions' possibly to make some remedies - eg herbal - only available via a herbalist who will only be able to buy them from a pharmaceutical company.  Many traditional herbal producers have gone out of business due to the need to 'standardize' and test products.  One of the problems of all this is that there are so many possibilities and options, and both sides of the 'press' don't seem to be able to put together truly factual information that is not emotive.  In my opinion the 'alternative' press can be as emotionally scarey as the standard press.

Personally, I have a great faith in the power of people.  This may not necessarily mean the result is to overturn laws of government, but what we want to survive will survive.  Herbalism and 'health' foods have always been under attack by the pharmaceutical conglomerates because they can't be patented.  But they have always survived - remember the old witch hunts and all the burning at the stake.  That didn't drive herbalism into extinction.  In a sense, this is another witch hunt which has been going on for some time, and covers not just 'products' but also therapies as the powers that be want to take them under their control.

One thing is for certain is that change is a constant, and although we may ring our hands and not agree with what is going on, I believe there is usually a 'positive' outcome even if it seems a little sidelined or just not obvious.  One outcome of this sort of legislation may be to push people back into growing their own and learning how to use things for themselves again.  This would effectively bring things full circle again and undermine all that wonderful planned legislation to 'control' things and push things underground.  There is such a massive ground-swell movement of people going back to growing their own veg and herbs at the moment - viz "Grow Your Own Drugs" on the tv which is great and we should celebrate those movements and watch carefully what the powers that be plan to do but always trust in the power of the pepple.

One things is for sure that governments have never, and can never, be in 100% control of all of the people all of the time!
